Simply about context

How often do you hear about context in your life? I don’t even mean context in the form of meaning, which is embedded in a sentence or situation, but when you are asked "What is your context?" or "Pay attention to your context", etc.

According to Merriam-Webster dictionary CONTEXT is:

"the parts of a discourse that surround a word or passage and can throw light on its meaning,

or

the interrelated conditions in which something exists or occurs : ENVIRONMENT, SETTING."

Oxford dictionary extend the definition of context to

"the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed."

In other words, the context allows us to understand the essence of what is happening and what is behind the words. It turns out that the context determines the content.

Now let's talk about PERSONALITY. The easiest definition we can find in Cambridge dictionary:

"the special combination of qualities in a person that makes that person different from others, as shown by the way the person behaves, feels, and thinks."

Thus, if we want to understand what kind of person we are and what kind of context we have, then we need to look at our environment, the manner of communication, and what we do in life.

Here is a small example from my own life:
Today, returning home from the park, I noticed the children coming from school. Suddenly, it dawned on me that I had always lived near the school from the moment I consciously reached out for knowledge (approximately from the third grade, when the first stage of the child’s education ends and then the child gradually begins to move into the age of a teenager and independently choose what to do and how). At first, I lived near the school I went to. Then, when I got my first apartment (by that time I had already received higher education) the school unexpectedly also turned out to be nearby. When I moved to another apartment, my new building also ended up next to the school. Moreover, for your information, this was not my priority or a conscious choice. In general, I chose the forest, which was also nearby. The funny thing is that even after moving to another country and choosing an apartment for housing (again relying on the fact that there was a park within walking distance), it turned out that I live surrounded by four! various schools.

When this realization hit me, to be honest, I almost cried with laughter because, if you look, education is my context. I am always learning something and teaching those who apply with a request for personal growth. For me, education (at the same time, it is not only and not so much an official diploma, but a person’s ability and desire for knowledge and its application) is one of the core values. I deeply respect people who, at any age, are open to knowing themselves and others, acquiring new and developing existing skills, drawing knowledge and sharing it with other people with pleasure. As you can see from the example above, my environment, in the form of schools close to home, confirm my context.

P.S. What is your context?
